At age 83, Lumet proves hes at the top of his game with this expertly directed melodramatic thriller, relentlessly teasing us with a twisty story and provocative characters. As deliberately provocative and in-your-face ugly as this film is, it still plays as second-rate Tarantino instead of first-rate Lumet. Unfortunately, like Andys character, the parts dont add up.
