Cloverfield dvd captures the chronic self-absorption of the Facebook generation with breathless, cleverly recycled media savvy, and then it stomps that self-absorption to death. These days, thats entertainment. Its a giant-monster movie from the point of view of some of those little people running and shrieking in the street — and it works incredibly well. Cloverfield is the most intense and original creature feature Ive seen in my adult moviegoing life, and thats coming from a guy who knows his Gojira from his Gamera and his Harryhausen from his Honda. Cloverfield is visceral attack that it leaves the viewer reeling for details that flew by like so many bricks raining off broken buildings. Insipid characters speak dialog so banal it makes Andy Tennants Fools Gold sound Shakespearean. Ive never cheered so hard for the monster to win in my life.
