The latest use for ANPRS ( automatic number plate recognition software ) is the use of a helicoptor by Essex police to administer justice on the counties roads. They can check a vehicle for speeding amongst other offences while a high powered camera reads the number plates on the car and checks it for tax , mot and insurance as well as confirming whether it is stolen. Unlike conventional policing the driver has no idea that he is being watched.
